"Flower Punk" is the type of music the Black Lips have been making the best part of 10 years. Its a term they coined themselves and it sums up there music pretty well.
The 60's jangle is always there but delivered with ruthless punk venom. There music is under produced, rough around the edges but bursting with enthusiasm.
There live shows are infamous with dead animals, male nudity and various bodily fluids often included in amongst a set list of ferocious 3 minute pop songs.
So with that being said, it came as a suprise when news broke that "mega producer" Mark Ronson was taking the helm on there new album "Arabia Mountain" due for release on June 6th.
Fans of the group, such as myself, would be forgiven in thinking he could mess with there sound to much.
I love there garage band sound, it works for them, and the idea of a big producer adding horns, drum loops, multi layering of tracks, vocal distortion, nipples, amy whinehouse and a host of other things could end up ruining the bands sound.
On the other hand, this will be The 'Lips 6th studio album so they can be forgiven for trying to change things up a bit. It might even lead to some mainstream attention.
Fans need not worry though, because on first listen they still sound very much like the band we love with an added lick of paint that takes nothing away from there sound, just freshens it up a bit.
